Givenchy Fall 2009 Couture

Thursday, July 09, 2009

In recent years through the magical combination of Riccardo Tisci and Givenchy, you can easily say that you have seen a new portion of the world and it's style within. From his venture to the Wild West for his Spring 2009 "Western Bondage" collection, to Spain for the dark and religion-inspired Fall 2008 season. As Mariacarla Boscono takes to the runway closing the show in pure Tisci tradition, we can only sit back and wait in anticipation for where are minds end up next. So where did we end up during this season? Paris, of course. Though the Middle East wasn't too far from sight when the hooded coats, veiled dresses, and at one point a red-bead embroidered jacket, took to the catwalk.

With the each girl's hair darkened and pulled backed, the dark and almost Gothic romance that we have come to long for in Riccardo Tisci's designs was once again present. Much like Christian Lacriox, Tisci showcased a smaller selection this season. Which created for 21 memorable and lust worthy looks, also as Lacriox. In an outdoor setting, in broad daylight, Antonella Graef opened the show in wearing a double-breasted jacket and open-toe boots that stopped just under the knee. While the traditional golden gladiator was no where to be seen, the Couture faithful will surly not mind the latest addition to Givenchy's ever-growing sea of footwear.

Reminding us that it was Fall though in the midst of Summer many fashion capitals alike, a series of darker pieces in rich fabrics such as velvet followed. Under some laid studded headpieces, reminiscent to the metal work seen at Alexander McQueen in previous years. Opting for a cleaner palette for evening wear, Tisci re-worked some noted works seen in his Spring 2009 Couture showing, and embellished them to a state of perfect modernity and modesty.

Somehow I feel Riccardo Tisci has a sort of retrospective in this collection. Veils, studs, draping, it's like a guidebook to his work. I'm not a big fan of this but the work is exquisite.

Thanks for your comments on my blog and your reply!!
