When talks of Bravo's latest hit "The Fashion Show" first came about you could have counted me in when the crowd of disappointed "Project Runway" followers, that merely regarded the show as a shameless knock-off. Now that we are well into the season, I can honestly and without hesitation say that I was completely wrong. Though the show that lead designer mentor Tim Gunn to super stardom was the first of it's kind, without a doubt, one of this season's must is the latest fashion oriented addition to the Bravo family.
As we still await the start of "Project Runway", the space that currently fills our void is nothing short of a reality goldmine. While we still question the true authenticity of most reality television, the cat fights that place behind the catwalk can only ring as being real. Determined to achieve their goal of a $125,000 grand prize and a chance to sell their line in a retail market, the designers let it all out. Yet still manage to pull together to met the standards of the of the many well established members that sit front row to each of the staged runway presentations. Though we may still be going through a slightly tough withdrawal from Michael Kors and Heidi Klum's "Auf Wiedersehen" , the new fresh minds and raw talent that lies "The Fashion Show" are something that should at least be given a chance. One that you will certainly not regret.

Finally got to check out this fabulous show online, since I don't get it over here! I was also completely wrong! I figured the show would be off the air as fast as it came on. Project what? The Fashion Show is my new obsession.
Let's talk favourites. I've only watched the first two episodes online, and I am truly loving what I'm seeing. Jean-Paul and Merlin are my top two designers having only seen EP1+2. That can easily change throughout the season. Reco is the one to watch though. That pleated strucuted volume mini w/ the YSL cage booties is making me quiver. Cannot wait to see what happens.
P.S. I could do without Kelly Rowland as a judge. I wouldn't really classify her as a "style icon" :P Mizrahi on the other hand = perfection.

I too, was skeptical about The Fashion Show taking over the much-loved Project Runway, but I have come to accept it, though not love it. My two main problems are that none of the "designers" know how to sew. How do you expect to construct things if you can't sew? Why even sign up for a show like this?? Also, I find all their attitudes exasperating, especially Danielle. I mean what a bitch. At least Rico says what he means instead of just muttering it under his breath and talking behind everyone's backs, belittling them. I just hate people who do that in life.
Other than that the show is fairly good. I love Issac Mizrahi and their mini challenges - they remind me of top chef, haha.
Does anyone know how much the designers get to spend on fabric each episode?
Anonymous 7:15 - I think it ranges with each episode. One week they got $300 and another I they had to make an outfit for Tinsley Mortimer with $50.
